The thought behind this deck and the character choices were to try and establish a consistent damage out put with above average durability to try and have an advantage in the Poe/Maz match up. Obviously Kylo's special is good in the Poe match up but it can also be very good in any match up with 9s on the other side of the table. We felt like the meta would be filled with these two deck types and I think we were right. This deck's bread and butter is price of failure. It can raise your damage ceiling to levels that are tough to come back from for your opponent.
Basics: Generally you want to roll out Kylo first to force them to either play cards at inconvenient times or to pitch to reroll fewer dice than they would like. That's assuming you get the special of course. If you don't though this can be a great set up for the vibroknife play. If you roll a melee on Kylo you then gain the ability to resolve the modified side of the vibroknife with the ambush action. The same can be applied to the holdout and the trooper. The inclusion of the holocron and the Lightning are mostly for the huge swings in damage. Using them with a price of failure can be absolutely game changing. The holocron focus and the Lightning special can also be very useful when you roll in a weapon with 9s into an unusable side.
The really big upsides in the deck come from price of failure though. Every weapon in the deck has redeploy with the exception of the vibroknife. Quite often you will find opportunities to overwrite it with a baton or a lightsaber when a character is near death. With all the redeploy you have no problem sacrificing 9s and moving the weapons to Kylo to swing again. That said if they target Kylo first 9s is already getting the weapons played on him anyway so all three characters are great targets for PoF. Ideally, you would like to wait until your opponent claims or has no cards left in hand to price of failure. This ensures that you don't get hit with a retreat, hyperspace jump, or mitigation. With all the paid sides in the deck you better have resources to pay for them. This is where aftermath makes so much sense. You can create some really big swings with that combo. Digging for a PoF with boundless ambition is another useful tactic if the opportunity presents itself and you are due to draw one.
To start the game it is always good to see resource generating cards and a weapon to play round one. Additionally no one would pitch a holocron. I also will keep a baton if I get one because I feel like getting one out on turn one can have a huge impact on the game. Other than that keeping removal is match up based and I almost never keep PoF. In addition to these things for starting hands you also want to resolve any resource sides that come up early in the game.
Thanks to anyone who took the time to read this and to all the people I got to play at Gencon. Every player was a great sport and super friendly.
Really BIG thanks to all the guys in my meta and play test group for all their help in testing this deck.

Do you just play the weapons on FN and all the rest with holocron on Kylo? |
Cool deck, glad I got to play against it! |
The list is tight on space and I chose redeploy weapons over the rocket launcher to play into PoF. Yes weapons primarily go on FN but the holocron can go anywhere. Thanks! I had a blast in our games Nick! You really crushed me with those friends in low places man. Congrats on top 4. |
I personally would keep the deck the same however put 9s at elite and kylo at 1 instead because i built a deck similar to this. In the deck I built I liked to use sith holocron on 9s because he could immediately roll the die out and if it hit its special you could skip the pay 1 resource cost of the holocron through 9s ability. |
Similarly you would still need to pay the resource on the special- the holocron brings out abilities not weapons. |
I would also, personally, leave Kylo at elite the way he is. Nine's ability is strong but his dice are mediocre. The argument can be made that Kylo's dice are equally mediocre but If you expect to fight Nine's and Poe they are substantially better. In addition, people are likely to target Nine's first; why put all your eggs in one basket? |
Why on earth would you argue for Elite 9s? His dice are junk. Similarly, Kylo's aren't much better except for the massive damage potential of the special side. Definitely being played correctly here |
Don't have two Force Lightning. forcespeeds or Rocket Launchers as replacements? One of each? |
|
I would argue for elite nines because in my own experience in playing kylo ren whenever you have to rollout for initiation i would get a kylo ren dye that was worse then a stormtrooper dye with a one melee, a two melee for a dollar,a shield,a dollar and two blanks for a mediocre elite with four extra health and an almost guarantee for a trash roll when you need to swing for game. |
the roll out isn't as important as the potential for massive damage from Kylo specials in the current meta. Not even a little |
In addition, rolling out a Kylo's special when the opponent has a high cost card in their hand may make them discard it or make other non-optimal plays. |

Oh and uh this is my own personal deck that i would take over any other three character deck out there. swdestinydb.com |
hi,i just started playing this game, and there fore i am not bothered by the current meta.i want to play this deck but am worried Kylo will be dead before i can use the price of failure.what are youre thoughts on this, and what changes could i make to improve Kylo's survivability? i dont have any cards from the new set yet. |

Why no rocket launchers? Seems like on weapons for 9's to abuse.
