This deck was designed to increase and add to the efficiency of Sabine's action cheating, while still being able to contend with the current meta of 3-wide character decks, along with shield-heavy conglomerations.

Why Kanan?

  • My First consideration in choosing Kanan was an intense fear of mono-decks. With 2pKylo as a strong contender in the meta, a single-color deck was less appealing, and blue has some awesome 0 and 1-cost cards that ensure resource economy and character durability.
  • Kanan's ability adds another level of action cheating to the already nearly illimitable combination of ambush action weapons and Second Chance Cycling on Sabine. Basically, it's an inherent Fast Hands Ability with more flexibility.

Basic Deck Play:

  • In this deck - as with any Sabine deck - cycling range weapons without offering your opponent an opportunity to mitigate is the key to success.
  • HOWEVER, the unique play in this deck is getting Sabine set up to cycle Thermal Detonator (if you are playing against a 2-or-more character deck), by putting Fast Hands on her character, and Force Speed on Kanan.
  • Kanan's crazy ability to claim a resource (which are often tight in this deck) or use a focus as a "free" action before resolving dice can be the determining factor in whether or not massive damage can be dealt by Sabine. Gaining a resource to pay for a Thermal Detonator special (resolved with Fast Hands) AND doing upwards of 9 range damage (with ambush action) can be absolutely detrimental to most decks, especially those with multiple 7 or 8 health characters such as Rainbow 5s.
  • Cycling Second Chance can be difficult because of its 3-cost, so Force Illusion offers some card cost economy for Sabine that can just as easily be cycled with Starship Graveyard - Jakku. In addition, Force Illusion HELPS Sabine's ability, since it puts more cards into your discard pile, thereby increasing your odds of accessing ambush weapons all while making room in your hand for more mitigation.
  • Planned Explosion - this card is one that most people actively dismiss, and remove from consideration for their decks. In the case of Sabine rolling absolute "trash" for damage (ie 2x Disrupt for a resource, a couple of modified range sides, or perhaps a 2x Discard on Thermal), Planned Explosion is a back-up plan (pun intended) that few people see coming. High risk, but the reward is 10 sweet, sweet, damage that nearly always kills of an entire character before they even get a chance to think twice about mitigating that disrupt die.
  • In my play tests, this deck was able to beat Rainbow 5s 4 out of 6 rounds with experienced players. Unlucky rolls and less-than-ideal draws against a great opponent lead to my demise at Regionals. It came down to the last roll of the dice, and my competitor had the leading edge on damage by one action.

All in all, this is a very versatile deck that has many options for opposition to the many current meta decks, not to mention that it's a total BLAST to play!
