As those who know me, or the website, or listen to the podcast know that I am a huge Star Wars Rebels fan and because this is a fun tournament, with just our ego on the line I decided on a new deck. e/Kanan, Hera and Ezra. With three colors I had some versatility at mitigation, and damage control. I also worked in Easy Pickings to represent Zeb and Planned Explosion to represent Sabine. I really tried to do Electroshock for Chopper but went with Loth-cat and Mouse instead so sorry Chop, maybe next mission. Also no Ghost in this i switched it out for the new Falcon because frankly it’s better. The Ghost in my terrible opinion is an uninteresting card, not worthy of how awesome The Ghost really is. Hera would be ashamed. As always the deck will be posted at the bottom.

Round 1: I played against my good friend Kevin Laporte’s e/Mother Talzin e/Thrawn Vehicle. A deck that just tossed out a ton of damage. Poor Ezra was picked out pretty quickly. Mother Talzin was doing her tricks and I focused on her, with her manipulation and two damage sides I had to get her off the table. Kevin also managed to get a Sonic Canon as well as an AT-DP. Pirate Speeder tanks came to my aid, and Kanan with the help of Force healing and Force Illusion managed to stay alive long enough that I wiped out Mother Talzin, and it was only a matter of time until I picked off Thrawn. It was a great match that almost went to time but in the end Kanan Jarrus, jedi knight stood tall. 1-0.

Round 2: This time around it was against my buddy Mike Kotar playing a very lethal Boba Fett/Seven Sister Deck. Ezra was one murdered once again in one hit. To be honest it wasn’t really the street rats day. I did manage to hang on longer than I thought I would, thanks to some poor rolls from Mike. In the next to last round I had Kanan left, with a Speeder Tank, and a Jedi Starfighter out. I was showing a total score of 7 on my dice, minus the Fighter. I had two cards in my hand, one was Planned Explosion. I’m dead next round if I don’t pull this off so I risk it all. Discard a card to reroll just the Starfighter and hope I can pull off a 3 so I can trigger my Explosion and defeat the Seventh Sister. Alas it rolled a 1 and Kanan was reduced to ashes and goop the next turn. Curses dice! 1-1.

Round 3: I actually got to play against my ex-wife Amanda Rachels and her e/Phasma e/Thrawn indirect damage ago-go. The amount of damage she threw out in the beginning was intense. Hitting me for eight indirect damage the first round. I also fell to a really well played Scorched Earth which hit me for another five later on in the game. However, thanks to Force Healing and shield generation I managed to hang out, take out Phasma, and keep mitigating until I could grab the up hand on Tarkin and win out the game. It was tough, my troops were wounded but they were victorious. 2-1

Round 4: Next up it was against Joseph Rowe and his killer e/Ezra e/Sabine deck. It was round 2 all over again for me. A beautiful roll on Sabine with eight damage once again vaporized Ezra turn one. Then it was pretty much repeat for the rest of the very short game. Hera took 8 on a subsequent round and while I tried my best to hold on with my lone Jedi and a couple of ships, i just couldn’t keep up with Sabine’s action, ambush resolve. It was ugly. Spectre squad was laid waste by one of their own. 2-2.

Round 5: Probably my most intense game of the day. Stephan Lanza and his Obi/Maz deck. Again rolling fast and high damage on me. While early on I lost characters, I did manage to generate enough resources to drop ships. The Speeder tank, the Falcon, all went down and was saving my bacon. At one time he had Kanan to 9 damage and I managed in the round to heal him with Force Heal, and then play and use two Ancient Lightsabers to heal six damage, plus give him shields with the Speeder Tank. Hearing the countdown to time, I ended the round so a new one would start. I am looking at two dead characters, plus 3 wounds on Kanan so 20 damage. I had wiped out Maz and I thought i could at least get through Obi Wan, with another Planned Explosion on other ships I had on the table. I had almost turned the tide on this game, this beat town had turned into a victory I just knew it. Of course the cold, cold face of reality had to set in and on Stephen’s next action played Hyperspace jump and won the game. A technique I have one (and reported on) in countless mill games. I was stunned, all the work to watch Obi Wan fly off to safety. It was an epic game to say the least and while I would of liked to continued to Top 8, I was glad Stephen could instead. It was a hell of a game 2-3.

I ended up at 14. My poor Rebels couldn’t handle two speed decks, but it gave a third one a hell of a fight and I’m proud of it. It needs some tweaking. Synchronicity didn't play out much. Of course not sure what you can do against Sabine rolling 8 damage turn one. As always, suggestions welcome!

It was great to play in our first Tournament game. I'll be on the look out for Hyperspace Jumps now.
