"It just so happens that your friend here is only MOSTLY dead. There's a big difference between mostly dead and all dead. Mostly dead is slightly alive."
- Miracle Max

LVO Tournament Summary (I played day 1a):

R1: Rami on Reylo - Turn 1 action 1 Ewok Ambush Disrupt - W

R2: Zion on VOS IS BOSS - Never ever ever let him resolve a Vos special - W

R3: Elrathion on Kallus Snoke O66 - Round 2 ewok ambush R2 with Chewies into 2 melee, 4/1 ranged. resolve the 2 melee so he can't EO66 it and put Kallus to 5 damage. He rolls out Kallus and hits the natty 3/1 melee which if Snoke'd into 5 kills R2. I have Dagger in hand and Flee is my only removal option. Do I activate 3po and resolve the 5 damage to put Kallus at 10 (11 after snoke) and lose R2 with a a chewies, or Flee and give up the round to hopefully save my r2 and the ramp? I decide to trade damage and got there in the end. Really tough spot and tough match. Was not expecting all the burn events. Really neat deck. Shame for the list error.

R4: rekopacz on Reylo - Turn 1 action 1 Ewok Ambush Disrupt, almost walked into a blowout No Mercy play towards the end but saw the line and decided to play it safe instead of potentially making a huge mistake - W (he did have the no mercy)

R5: Wyatt on Reylo - Didn't draw an ambush event R1. He won the rolloff and took shields. Didn't get to disrupt. Round 1 we traded removal and I got a salvaged arm to his Niman. R2 he got 2nd Niman and I could not keep up. Took a while since I have a lot of removal to play but the game was very lopsided in his favor - L

R6: Randy on Snoke Mud Greedo O66 - a long grind but I have a lot of practice playing around O66 since I was testing it a bunch leading up to worlds last year - W

R7: Seth on 4Lom - Killed GG pretty quickly. He got a really late Round 2 fist and got solid damage off of it, but I was able to set up really big ambush plays with Rex's blaster round 3 to snipe the Sentinel and round 4 to drastically punch into 4Lom. Pickings and Flee did work - W

6-1, #2 seed, Top Hero for Friday, ended up #3 seed overall. All 7 of my opponents made day 2. Feeling very good about how I played and my results.

Went to bed Saturday paired against Zion's VOS IS BOSS and was elated to have what I would consider a very lopsided matchup. Droids just have too much removal for that deck. Woke up paired against Randy's Snoke O66. Ugh.

Top 32: Randy. The best opening draw in this matchup is Grappling Arm + Removal. You play the grappling on R2, then when you roll him in you flip the arm to the disrupt side. 2 dice protects against forsaken and if you can take their resources then they have to work to try ramping or playing an EO66. Then you remove the mud and greedo dice at all costs to prevent snoke's PA. The games grind out a little slower since you're not boosting resource faces with R2 and ramping as hard, but this line is capable of just full out dismantling of that deck. Game 1 I got the Round 1 Grappling and won in about 30 minutes. Game 2 I got the Round 1 Grapplng again. My rolls went really cold in the middle of the game and couldn't spend too many cards rerolling since I had to hold my removal as much as possible. Towards the end of the game I made a huge mistake by windmill slamming ewok ambush when R2 had 2 HP left. Realized that if I snipe greedo off then he has a 1/6 to return kill my R2 and that would've been huge. My extra action was to play my riot shield before killing. He had motive to reroll my chewies ... OOPS. End of the game I have a fickle and 3PO with a Chewies, Dagger, and Salvaged arm. Need to do 5 damage to mud for the win. All I have to do is hit the 3 or 4 on chewies, or a focus and I can triple focus into a LOT of damage. I roll in fickle first, then roll 3po and completely whiff. Game took forever and he eventually won with about 5 minutes left on the match clock. UGh. Game 3 we are guaranteed to only play 2 rounds with so little time on the clock. I take shields and my opening is very solid removal. I start with chopper this round to bait him into playing EO66. He does. End of round 1 he did 3, I did 2. Go to round 2. I draw more removal and a field medic. I think I entangled his greedo + a snoke die. I have flee and medic left. He rolled in mud and whiffed damage. I was able to field medic, disrupt him to 0 so he couldn't play a fickle, then played flee to remove his dice and win 2 damage to 1. - W 2-1

Top 16: Brian on Maul FOST Profitable - Game 1: Round 1: Got insanely rich via salvaged arm on chopper resource and 3po hitting the resource on rollout. He plays maul's saber and rolls 3/3 and blank. I entangle a Maul + the saber. He PAs into a 2. I drop chewies and end up landing 8 into Maul. Round 2 he activates Maul, I ambush into 5 with chewies for the Maul kill. He scoops. Game 2: Round 1: almost identical but his PA whiffs. I get chewies again but not as much damage. Round 2: ambush into almost dead maul with lethal showing. He takes 2 shields off of Vader's saber, I drop salaved arm on R2 which is lethal again. I kill maul. He decides to play it out and I get the Fost down the following round. The draw was very favorable to me. This is why you run 2x Chewies lol. After going to time in top 32, having a 15 minute match was a big relief. - W 2-0

Top 8: Gabe on Plowoks - quite possibly the worst matchup for droids in this meta. Your removal is mostly useless and if you don't get the right ramp immediately to start sniping the little dudes off the board immediately, then you have almost no chance to win. Gabe's list is extra good with the inclusion of Garbage Chutes. My god it was so good against me. Game 1: I disrupted him off of 2 later in the round but he found another resource and got off a 5 damage Strength in Numbers into a round 2 4 damage Strength in Numbers. Wasn't even a game. Game 2 - I get dagger down round 1 and barely was able to grind it out. I had a mistake at the end but was lucky enough to whiff past double laser tripwires that were lethal for him. Had a riot shield in hand that i needed to play first for safety, regardless though I got there. Game 3: didn't draw the right ramp. Survived towards the late game but I just couldn't get there. I think my only ramp this game was ezra's saber and salvaged arm. He missed a claim-claim line towards the end and gave me a little bit of an out, but it wasn't enough. Pain was Inflicted and I was done. - L 1-2

Great time. Got lots of cool swag. Felt like I was in a good spot to go deep and possible win the tournament and I did what I could.

Droids are still good. Can't wait to see droids crush the CM meta too lol. Gonna be a blast.

You got a 'Like' just for the image... What worked well and what didn't?

I would maybe consider changing my 2nd riot shield for a pacify to have another free removal card, otherwise I don't think I'd change anything. If you are going to run droids, I'd take my list and the winning list and compare them then decide which card choices you like better in the comparable spots and what fits your play style.

List differences are:

  • 2x Fickle vs 2x Electrosword
  • Rex's Blaster vs Electroripper
  • 2nd Riot Shield and Hidden Motives vs 2nd Entangle, 2nd Near Miss, and Pacify
  • Off The Sensors vs 2nd Instigate
