3rd Place @ Get Your Game On (Ferndale, MI) Store Championship 06/03/17
13-1 record in those two tournaments combined.
Everyone has seen a Poe/Maz deck before, so I'm not going to insult your intelligence going card-by-card down my list. Instead I will talk a bit about commonly played Poe/Maz cards I didn't include and the reasons for their exclusion.
Launch Bay - Launch Bay is both flexible and powerful... but it's complete garbage in your opening hand. An ideal Round 1 has you playing cards like Fast Hands, Hit & Run, Maz's Goggles, etc and by the time you could get around to throwing something via Poe's special that Launch Bay has a value of 2 at best. The first two rounds are critical in this meta, so I opted out of this self-inflicted vulnerability.
Negotiate / Loth-Cat & Mouse / etc - During the Awakenings meta it was commonplace and not unreasonable to play 10+ dice control cards in your deck. Thanks to Fast Hands, Force Speed & Maz Kanata there simply aren't enough opportunities to play that many removal cards in the course of a game. If you run too much removal in today's meta, it means you're drawing duds. That is especially true in our deck, as we are 100% racing to victory. We want our cards to do things and exit our hand, then draw 4-5 more every single turn. Defensive Position and Electroshock (with the occasional cheeky Unpredictable or well timed DL-44) have gotten the job done.
Second Chance / Ammo Belt - If your plan is to keep an 8-health character alive long enough to abuse this combo, I hope for your sake that she survives the 1st & 2nd round. There are a handful of decks in this meta that have little difficulty ensuring that she doesn't, which means for the rest of the game you're stuck with way too many dead cards in your deck. If you want to play Second Chance, run Han/Rey as God intended.
Thanks & kudos go to:
- My brother for putting in the hours with me testing this deck (ironically, we were just trying to beat it), and also for being the guy who actually piloted it to it's 1st place finish.
- Gate Keeper & Get Your Game On for hosting these events.
- All my friends in the local Michigan SWD scene (including those of you sitting in the Second Deck) for making these events such a blast to begin with. If you play in Michigan be sure to join our Facebook group (Star Wars: Destiny - Michigan.)
- My wife for putting up with all of this.
I think I am punishing myself for not letting myself play this combo. Lol
