My top 16 deck from GenCon 2017 - North American Championships. I went 7-1 finishing 9th overall. My only loss in swiss was to HonestlySarcastc who went on to win the whole tournament. I lost in the top 16 to Phasma/Trooper/Guavian piloted by Nick Obee.

This is a very "unique" approach to the deck than what I'm used to seeing. (Maybe that's just me!) Can you provide a strategy article and explain the cards you chose to use?

Great job! I like what you did with the deck. What decks was it strongest against and which were the harder ones to beat, excluding Nick's.

Can you throw a lone operative special with poe? It seems that it wouldn't heal anyone, since lone operative heals that attached character, and it isn't attached to anyone.

@runningonion My initial reaction is that you are correct. However, I am guessing that Lone Operative was for playing, and not for pitching. I could be wrong, though.

@dough54321 I posted a write up here swdestinydb.com

@Dinofishy It does very well against most things. In my testing my worst match up was Snap/Other big Hero because of their ability to choke me out but even then I was at worst 50/50 and more like 60/40. My loss in swiss to Joe was because he resolved a 2 damage against his own FN after I claimed which killed his FN and allowed him to redeploy 3 weapons to his Bala and finish Poe off. I had played a Lone Operative rather than used Hyperspace Jump which cost me the game but overall I was 75/25 or better in the FN match up and in my top 16 match against Nick he kept me choked out and played perfectly in the first game and in the second I just didn't see any of my group damage cards, in fact 6 of my bottom 7 cards were both thermals, both u-wings and both rocket launchers. Nick is also an amazing player but in general the Phasma match-up is about a good as it gets for me Poe eats 3 character decks for lunch and this versions ability to close out games that go into the later rounds means even one on one Poe or Maz can normally close it out.

@runningonion It is my understanding of Poe's special that it can be pitched to heal himself but not Maz however if Maz used cunning it would heal her. That's how I played it at NA Championships but with that said none of my opponents called for a clarification so take that how you will.

runningonion 1022

@lrmack0427 I would actually say that cunning would heal the character that has lone operative attached, because that would keep it consistent with how cunning affects baby vader.

Belsnickel 356

@runningonion I would for sure agree with that if Lone Operative was in play on Poe and you used Cunning to use it straight from Lone Operative however I have only even used it by Cunning to Poe's special to toss Lone Operative. I'll have to look closer at it in the future.

@lrmack0427 If you get clarification on Lone Operative can you get back to us. I feel not being able to throw it hinders it quite a bit. I really like the card but at 3 cost it seems like it may be difficult to get it out early for maximum value. How have Retreat and Hyperspace Jump preformed against non FN decks? Do you usually hold on to them, discard to reroll, or pitch at end step? Between Cunning, Planetary, Hyperspace, Retreat and Lone Operative it seems like you have a lot of high cost must plays each round. I assume it becomes very situational but when do you prioritize Planetary over Lone Operative and vice versa for example. I guess a better question to ask is in what match ups do you find yourself playing more defensive since it can be assumed most match ups you are on the aggression.

Belsnickel 356

@JoePa Lone Operative tends to get played late game. However its also there to deal with the slightly more situational Hunker Downs as I can toss it with Poe to do 2 melee and discard Hunker Down which can be clutch vs Phasma. As for how Hyperspace does vs other decks its still just as good. With Maz's ability and Cunning I will very often only activate her then hyperspace out of the round. It allows me to compensate for bad draws as well. As for Planetary I honestly would consider dropping down to 1 of. In my 8 swiss games I only played it once and it was to deal the last 2 damage needed to win. Its a great card but I feel that playing it early leads me trying to play faster than I need to in order to activate it. Often taking a turn or 2 and discarding to reroll a maz dice to hit a shield or resource can really help in the next round. Plus with sabotage becoming more and more common hinging your path to victory on it is just bad news.
